i hope this counts!  from last night, full dream here: http://mortalmist.com/forum/index.php/topic,854.msg28225.html#msg28225

from over the hill i see one of the cloned hookers (now a robot) coming at me.  i remember the lucid tasks for the month and decide i will blow fire from out my mouth.

i took a deep breath and let loose at the robot... my breath was hot but not fire... i could see heat squiggles in it, like you can see coming off a charcoal grill, little refractions in the light caused by the heat.  it felt normal to do, but i was sure that i was breathing hard in my sleep IRL.  i tried again, took another deep breath and blew hard!  smoke came out and nothing more.

it felt natural to try and SPIT fire... i spat like i was trying to beat a record in a watermelon seed spitting contest.  what came out was about the size of a marble... i thought i had failed for sure.  i watched it hit the robot girl not expecting too much.  as it hit her it erupted into a 40 foot high INFERNO of fire.

i was so pleased with myself that i laughed myself awake.

Congrats, Josh!

I'll try spitting fire too if breathing doesn't work, thanks for the idea.

Continued from the Intermediate Challenge thread:

I was in my room.  My vision kept fading away, and although I could bring it back by looking at my hands, I knew that the dream was close to ending.  I looked into my back yard.  It was night, and just as I needed, a fire was burning in the fire pit.  I tried to phase through my window, but it resisted me, so I just opened it up normally and popped out the screen.  Someone was in my room telling me to wake up, and I thought for a moment that it was coming from real life, but my thoughts cleared a little and I knew it was only a DC.

I headed out the window, and walked to the fire.  I reached into it, and removed a small, glowing piece of coal.  It was unpleasantly hot at first, but as I put it in my mouth, I adapted to the heat.  It had a delicious warm, chocolate flavor.  I allowed it to break up and coat my mouth, and when I breathed out, I saw small flames come out of my mouth.  I decided I could do better than that, and started eating more embers from the fire, but at that point I woke up.

I tried, but only once.  I was sure that I could do it and opened my mouth wide with intent, at the same time contracting my abdominals for some force.  But nothing came out:(  Rather than trying again I moved on to the intermediate task.

I did this the night before last. Dream isn't in my DJ yet, as I'm catching up from a week without internet. Here goes

...I found myself lucid, in my room. I can hardly remember what the dream was like before I became lucid, but there I was. I thought of this challenge, and decided I ought to be outside to do it, so as not to burn my room. I tried to fall through the floor into another scene, but I just fell right back into my room. I thought this was quite funny, and did it a couple more times. It was very similar to Portal, just without visible portals.

Once I realised I couldn't get out of my room that way, I decided to simply get out through the window, into the garden. However, my body wasn't cooperating, and I couldn't get onto the desk to get at the window. I was standing on my bed, trying to get onto the desk, when I saw Freddy D. standing on thin air outside the window, about 10 metres away. I opened the window wide and more or less stuck my head out of it, and tried to breathe fire at him.

I breathed out hard, and kind of made noises in the back of my throat, like you do when you're gargling, and sure enough, after a second or so, a large amount of fire came hurtling, flame-thrower style, out of my mouth, towards Freddy. I'm not sure if it reached him, but it definitely obscured him from view, while it lasted. After maybe two or three seconds though, it dissapated. I was pleased my success, and did it again, saying "have some flames, Freddy!". After I'd flamed poor Freddy again, I went inside, and did another challenge, but I've forgotten what it was...

I finally remembered to try this. (Actually... I finally became lucid so I could try this).

Here is the part of my LD that had to do with this task.

Finally when I landed I thought about getting a task done. I knew that I hadn't had an LD for a while and wondered if I would have another chance soon. I remembered that I really wanted to try to breathe fire.

I was now inside this room. There was s little girl sitting on the floor and and older man at the far side. I took a deep breath and blew out. Nothing. I did it again. Nothing. I tried a third time, and again, nothing happened. I then remembered how joshbotch had success "spitting" fire. I tried doing that, but nothing happened. I felt discouraged. I wondered if this was beyond my ability. Then I reminded myself how it was when I first tried to make fireworks come out of my fingers. I had had the same problem. I wondered if I should do the fireworks one again to help my self confidence. But then I decided that I could breath fire if I really truly believed that I could do it.

So I tried again. This time I opened my mouth a little wider and made the air coming out of it as hot as I could, and I breathed out all of my air, making a little "hhhhhhh" sound at the end. At the very end of that breath I suddenly saw orange flames. I drew in another breath and tried the same thing again. This time I was able to create more flames. The flames extended out from my face about 12 inches.

I tried it again. This time I reached out my hand and put my fingers in the flame. I could feel the heat, but it was not painful. I did it several times while putting my hand into the flame. I was very fascinated with the way it felt.

I then tried to make the flames go further. This time I got them to go out 18 inches or so. I knew that if I kept trying that I would be able to make them go further and further.

But I decided that I wanted to try something different. I wanted to see if the flames were real enough to catch something on fire. I looked down to where the little girl was playing on the floor. Next to her was an old empty cardboard box. I leaned down a started blowing flames on the box. After a couple of breaths I noticed the edges of the box start to turn black and finally I saw the orange flames spread along one side of the box. I felt very satisfied.

I then saw the old man sitting across the room. I decided to go up to him and ask him what he thought about what I could do. I walked over and started to ask him to watch me. But he interrupted and told me he had already been watching me.

Thanks. I'm so glad we have these official challenges. It makes me persist when I might otherwise give up and go on to something else. And every time I have success it gives me more confidence in future LDs.

Phew, I managed to do it, finally!

Pyromania

I'm at work, which is in a strange house, looking for a place to sleep.  SF is there.  I lie down on top of a washer and dryer with my blanket.  I have some earplugs, one green and one blue, attached by a string, that I am trying to put it in my ears.

FA

I wake up in bed, in a strange bedroom.  My pillow is gone.  Tom is there too, undisturbed by the lack of pillows.  SF comes in the room.  I tell her about the dream I just had, and how she was in it.  I see that I still have the ear-plugs, green and blue, but they are not connected now.  OK, I realize what's going on.  I get out of bed, but the blanket is all wrapped around me and I can't get it off; it's quite annoying.  I remember what I wanted to do.

I go out of the room, trying to ignore the annoying blanket, which I cannot get get unwrapped from me.  A bunch of people I work with are in an auditorium, like at school.  There aren't any chairs, they are just sitting around on the floor by the stage.  Rabbits and ducks and chickens are walking around them.  I hate to do it, but I don't want to waste my opportunity.  I start blowing as hard as I can (I'm sure I'm really doing it; if somebody saw me sleeping they would probably wonder what I was doing).  The people ask me what I'm doing, and I say, "Breathing fire".  They say OK, and go on talking.

Suddenly it works, and I blast fire all over them, like a flame-thrower.  Nobody seems to notice; they go on with what they were doing, but as I walk towards them everybody disappears and there is just a bunch of flames around the stage.  I remember that I wanted to kill two birds with one stone with this task, so I walk thru the flames to get that task done too. I walk around in the fire.  It's warm, but not burning.

(I wake up, too hot, under the cover.)
