My colleague Tadas Stumbrys "accidentally" stumbled across two non-REM lucid dreams in a lucid dream induction study of his (the main results are not yet published). The topic of non-REM lucid dreams is very exciting and important in lucid dream research. In his short report Tadas summarizes research about NREM lucid dreams very well, presents the two cases he found in his study and there is an interesting discussion as well. one funny thing he pints out is that all NREM lucid dreams that have been reported in studies until now appear to have been reported by female participants! This topic of NREM lucid dreams really should be explored further in research!

Here is the paper (pdf is too large to attach): http://archiv.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/ojs/index.php/IJoDR/article/view/9483/pdf_30

Summary:

Lucid dreams – dreams in which the dreamer is aware that is dreaming – most frequently occur during REM sleep, yet there is some evidence suggesting that lucid dreaming can occur during NREM sleep as well. By conducting a sleep laboratory study on lucid dreams, we found two possible instances of lucidity during NREM sleep which are reported here. While lucid dreaming during NREM sleep seems to be much rarer and more difficult to achieve, it appears to be possible and is most likely to occur during N1 sleep, somewhat less likely during N2 sleep and yet to be observed during N3 sleep. Future studies should explore induction methods, underlying neural mechanisms and perceptual/dream content differences between REM and NREM lucid dreams. Furthermore, a consensus agreement is needed to define what is meant by lucid dreaming and create a vocabulary that is helpful in clarifying variable psychophysiological states that can support self-reflective awareness.

Since this is in the Articles section and this is not a discussion board, I have begun a thread for discussion on this interesting topic here: http://mortalmist.com/forum/index.php/topic,5624.0.html

Anyone doing a WILD certainly has had a NREM lucid dream every time they did one. Any lucid dream will be remembered when one wakes up, apart from greater vividness and emotional intensity and that ones is much more disassociated with ones body in a REM lucid there's no difference.
