Hey Guys,

This is just a little update on OneiroNautilus. Like I mentioned before, I am a Visual Basic programmer, but since many of you would like to use OneiroNautilus on other platforms than Windows, I am going to write the program in Java. I was going to use JBuilder, but I have decided to use J++ because I am already familiar with the development environment (don't worry, I will make sure it will run on all platforms). I don't know much about Java, but I am currently studying it. I should be able to start working with it in the next month.

I still need more information about what kind of data you would like to be able to store, and how you would like the program to flow (how you would like to see the information that will be stored). All ideas are welcome. I was also wondering, Keelin?.., if any one knows how I get get my hands on the technical specs for the Nova Dreamer. I would like it to be able to interface with OneiroNautilus, but I need the help and permission of the LI institute before I can add that type of functionality.

I am still looking for any people interested in helping with the project like Mikolas. Please contact me by email if you want to help. jduckwo@yahoo.com

Let's bring OneiroNautilus to life!

Dear Adastra & Mary & Jake & Chris & Mikolas, et al!

Adastra: Your reply and questions to Mary (and us all) about the finer points of dream control have me thinking new thoughts as well.

I would tend to categorize intentional actions such as distorting the dream body (for example, stretching an arm), flying, passing through seemingly solid surfaces, breathing underwater, etc. as having external control (of the image of the dream body).

As for internal control, I would include such things as recall of waking life information, decision making/choosing to act or respond to a situation in a way that fully reflects the realization that one is dreaming (for example, making a creative choice not based on habit or limitations of the waking world), willing/conjuring in which memory and/or imagination are key factors, employing dream prolonging techniques.

Regarding LI's involvement with the development of the dream journal program, at present, the staff is focused intensely on preparing for the upcoming Dreaming & Awakening workshop in Hawaii (August 1-10), so I doubt you'll hear much from them for a while. I'm not actually an employee -- just sort of an off-site volunteer elf/Forum moderator -- but I've checked with Stephen on this, and you have his blessings and permission to use this topic on the Forum for developing the program to your heart's content.

For more technical questions like accessing specs for the Nova Dreamer, it would be best to contact LI directly via email to either Nathen or Stephen, but again, keep in mind it may be awhile before they can respond. If you need a quicker reply, try calling them a 1.800.GO.LUCID.

And if you haven't already, I'd recommend reading the article "Variations of Lucid Dreaming Experiences" by LaBerge and DeGracia for further suggestions on categories you might want to include in your program. You'll find the article at http://www.lucidity.com/VOLDE

Sweet lucid dreams to all, Keelin

Hey everyone. In case anyone was wondering about my dream project "Clear Dreaming" it is coming along quite nicely. I know I said I would post a sample a few weeks back, and have not. My reason is, as any programmer can tell you, writing programs often takes longer than you expect. I decided I would wait until I have a more completed package before I post a download. I estimate I will be ready in about four weeks. I am very eager to get this project finished but due to time restraints I can only work about an hour a night. And to add to my dilemma I keep thinking of new ideas for the program

Currently, I am working on the search features. After that comes the statistics (which I have already begun a little bit). And of course I am continually working on the cosmetics.I will continue to post updates every week or two. Hopefully I will be to the point where I can pose some screen shots in a few days.

Until next time...

Yeah Chris, keep on. Can't wait to see your prog to find some ideas to steal & use in OneiroNautilus >>> <<< We are, actually, stuck with it at the moment, still waiting for the Lucidity Institute to either confirm or refuse its participation in the project. What we have thought about is making it a kind of SND software extension and a LI's tool for getting useful data for their researches. What I mean by the second notion is that for example if there were some future projects as the Napping and Posture Experiment, we might (Jake actually) make a patch that would enable users of OneiroNautilus to participate in it without having to print, fill in and send a questionaire. How exactly? It depends - for expample if they decide to take part in the research, there might appear new categories and checkboxes for selected nights and the results including dream reports along with all the usual data would be sent to LI directly by OneiroNautilus after completing the experiment.

All we need is to get LI's attention. No significant success yet. However, we still wait and hope. We do have patience

Cool Chris, looks good.

Is there anyway we can get a hold of someone at LI? I would like to know what level of involvment they would like to have, if any, before I proceed with my development.

As Mikolas said "We still wait and hope. We do have patience"

Hey everyone

I created a small site for my program. Go there for updates every week or two. I have already posted several more screen shots and information about what I'm currently working on.

http://home.naxs.com/wlefevers/main.html

My first release really is getting closer... only a couple weeks away.

As for OneiroNautilus, would it actually be necessary to get the Lucidity Institute's approval to incorporate compatibility with the nova dreamer into the program?

I don't know about all the legal stuff, but I don't think it would be illegal to do this, as long as OneiroNautilus is free. Of course, without their help you would have to figure out how their nova dreamer and software works.

I realize that one of the goals of OneiroNautilus is to incorporate the Lucidity Institute in other ways also. It seems like they would jump at this opportunity to involve more people in lucid dreaming.

Dear Jake & Chris & Mikolas,

I spoke with Stephen tonight regarding your mutual interest in developing a dream journal program that would connect with the SuperNovaDreamer. We agreed that it's an excellent idea and next week we will talk about it again in more detail. Stephen's very much interested in making the SuperNovaDreamer more useful and he's willing to make the source code and necessary information available for a public domain project.

Thanks for being patient. We'll be in touch again soon, Keelin

I've been off this forum for a little while (in fact, I still have more than 300 unread messages to go through!) but accidentaly and happily I have noticed your post Keelin and I must say I am really happy to hear our project seems to be moving forward thanks to your support. Am most grateful, as always!

Chris: sorry I forgot to let you know i tried out your program and encountered the following problem:

I run it, type my name, press enter and... game over, it says "runtime error 339 - TABCTL32.OCX not correctly registered: file missing or invalid" The OCX file that comes with your prog is already copied to the windows\system dir.

So what am I donig wrong? :-(

Hey everyone

Keelin, great news, we all wait anxiously.

Mikolas, I wonder is anyone has been able to get my program working

Your problem will be solved by going to my site at it's new url: http://home.adelphia.net/~clefevers/CD/main.html and downloading the zip file again, I have included the additional ocx you need. Of course there might be other files you need after that...but we will take care of that if it comes up. I hope to release another beta that is further along within the next few weeks.

Soon I hope to find a good installer program that will take care of all this hassle but for now bear with me...

Hi Guys,

Sorry I haven't made a post for awhile, but I am planning to move from Salt Lake City, Utah to Boston, Mass. It's taking up all my time. I'm glad that the LI is interested in helping us develop Oneironautilus. I can't wait to hear some more good news. If any of you need to contact me regarding the project you can email me at jduckwo@yahoo.com.

Sweet Dreams, Jake

P.S. Do any of you have Yahoo! Messenger or MSN Messenger? If you do, I would be interested in getting your log on names.

Hey Mikolas

Don't worry about it. In the next two or three weeks I am going to be releasing beta2, which is much further along. It will install itself so you shouldn't have to worry about ocx files or anything. I'll make sure the download link to the beta2 works.

Hey guys

It's been a while so I thought I would update you on how Clear Dreaming is coming along. I have been working steadily for the past few weeks and am getting very close to my beta 2 release. I still have a few minor bugs to fix, but should be posting a download within two weeks at the most, really .

Thanks for being patient.

Chris, I had planned on creating a similar program of my own with Visual Basic. I probably won't now. Your program is quite nice so far. I'd only change a couple things if I made it myself. First, the association of dreams and night. My coolest dreams are WILDs in the middle of the day. Another thing I'd do is allow for longer passwords. I'd allow at least 8 characters. Anyway, I can't wait to see the finished product.

Hi, Chris. Could you tell me about what Clear Dreaming is? I'm a little unclear about the software. I do have a dream journal, which I keep in my computer. It's a notepad file.

Hi, Chris. I downloaded Clear Dreaming. For some reason, my computer wouldn't go to the link when I first read the post. In fact, JFW didn't say "link" as it usually does when it comes to a hypertext link. But when I came to the link again, it said "link". I was able to read the description on your website, and download the program. It sounds great. I'm always interested in new dream gadgets, dream drugs/herbs/supplements. Anything that'll enrich my dream world, or induce lucidity, or whatever.

Hey guys

Jason, I'm glad you like my program. I understand your point about associating dreams with nights. The reason I decided to do it this way, is that most people would probably find recording dreams on a nightly basis easiest. My program does allow for entry of daytime dreams also. Think of a nightly file as actually a "24-hour" file.

Thea, thanks for taking a look at my program. I hope you will give me your feedback soon.

Hey everyone..

How's it going... I've been gone for awhile and I finally got a chance to come back and visit.. I just moved from Salt Lake City, UT to Boston, MA.

Chris.. I just wanted to tell you your program looks great.. You have done an excellent job. I have decided not to create a program in java.. I should have just done it in VB like you have, but since yours is so complete, I don't think I will.. However, if you ever need someones elses opinion or some help with development, just let me know.. I have been programming VB for 6 years now and I'm looking for something to take up some spare time.. Have you considered expanding to the Web??

Anyway.. Just thought I would check in and say hi

I see there hasn't been any activity on this subject for a few months and was wondering if Chris's or Jake's software is available anywhere? From the most recent posts it appeared that Chis's program was pretty complete but I sent email to Chis and visited his download site but it appears that both have dissappeared. Since I'm a programmer myself I figured I'd write my own. The programs that I've found on the web don't have all the features that I would like.
