Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this device?
http://www.remdreamer.com
It's only $147USD, which is a huge bargain relative to current NovaDreamer prices.
James
Sounds too good to be true, especially as I have just paid...well, nevermind how much, for a new NovaDreamer from Europe.
Paul
Calling themselves the "European Lucidity Institute" Sounds like a potential con-man to me.
Dear Dreamers,
Anyone for a reality check??
Those who are curious enough to explore the website mentioned above should be concerned with authenticity for several reasons -- price being one of them, non-connecting links another. No mention of The Lucidity Institute should raise critical antennae if nothing else. Even the image of the NovaDreamer looks, shall we say, suspiciously beyond familiar! We've not heard from anyone willing to take the risk to test their legitimacy, and we would hope our readers here are keen enough to question wisely.
Bright waking moments to all, Keelin
Hello fellow dreamers. I have been emailing a guy from the European institute and he has told me that the only difference between the 2 is that the REM-Dreamer does not connect to the PC like the NovaDreamer. So maybe one of you guys might want to give it a shot.I probably will
I ordered one about 2 months ago and never rec'd it. I suspect it's a scam... The guys were more than willing to email me before I sent the payment, but now they won't return any emails, and the "insurance" on the Polish version of PayPal is a joke. Stick with the ND!!!
Thanks alot Keith, cause I was just about to get one... You saved me..
Hold on!!! It arrived----The post office attempted delivery on Saturday but I was out of town; I went there today at lunch and it's in my possession. True to their word, the company that sold me my remdreadmer has comp'd me a total of 18 months on the warranty, as a recomp for delivery taking so long, evidenced by a letter signed by the president himself Anyway, I will keep you posted on the remdreamer's operation. I will read and reread the instructions tonite, but chances are I will go for a WBTB in the early hours!
UPDATE:
I've used my Remdreamer 4 times since it arrived. The first 2 times, I went to sleep and wokeup early (after about 4 or 5 hours) and tried to stay up for about 10 min (most WBTB info recommends an hour, but I'm lucky if i get 6 hours a night total. The remdreamer documentation says try for 20 minutes...) Anyway the first two mornings I tried WBTB while wearing the remdreamer. The first morning I did achieve lucidity, but it was very fleeting. I don't even remember the light and sound cues, but I thought to myself, "I'm dreaming, stabalize the environment..." so I started to spin. Then I remember wondering how it should look and feel, and I wokeup...very disappointing;()---I doubled checked that I really WAS awake, and sure enough it was time to get up. The second morning I don't remember any cues, and only recorded one "regular" dream. The next two nights I tried going to sleep wearing the mask, and both nights I had several issues waking up very hot (it's been scorching here in socal) and/or finding the mask had come off. I then decided to only attempt to use it on the weekends, 'cause my already taxed sleep schedule was bleeding in to my work performance. Anyway, I would like to dispell the rumor I've read that the remdreamer does not have a reality check button, it does. Also, I can't remember exactly all the options my original ND had back in the 90's, but this remdreamer has 20+ different programmable settings, so I'm going to slowly and methodically keep tweaking per the instructions. Yes, I'm still going to buy a "real" novadreamer, but this is a great toy in the meantime, and did I mention I DID have an ld the first night I used it? Keith
Its sounds cool Keith. So what do you think the difference is between the Rem-Dreamer and the Nova Dreamer? The guy told me that it does not plug into the pc like the Nova Dreamer?
Hey Lamar, No, it's doesn't plug into the PC, but neither did my old Nova Dreamer. I think only the people lucky enough to have purchased a "superNovaDreamer" got that feature. Anyway, the "real" novadreamer is definitely a more polished product, where as the remdreamer has more of a hand-made feel to it.
Keith,Paul,Others?? I am curious, are you usually sleeping on your back while using these devices??
Also I wonder if it is still effective while up an hour during WBTB if one can just sit in a chair with their eyes closed or do you actually have to do something that focuses your attention like read, play computer games etc.
Patricia
Hi Patricia, I've personally been having some difficulty staying up for an hour, but as I said, my alotted sleep-time has been very slim lately. I've been getting to bed between 11:30 and 12:30, and I try to be UP for my shower and coffee before work by 5:45. With that in mind, it's been helpful that the documentation for the remdreamer says, "stay up for 20 minutes." Fortunately, I have a four-day work week this week, and i will be off Friday, and all of next week, so I will have time to make at least half a dozen honest WBTB attempts. Anything in particular working for you? Keith
Dear Pat,
I like to lay on my left side while wearing a dream mask. I also like sit in a comfortable loveseat with my feet up on a padded coffee table. I become restless if I lay on my back for too long.
Also, during that wakeful hour I usually read something interesting to get the left side of my brain thinking. Before trying to fall back to sleep, it also helps to meditate on your intention to remember to recognize you are dreaming and become aware of your dreams. I now do this for at least five minutes or until I nod off.
Sometimes I find it hard to fall back to sleep. I found it helps to take a Melatonin before bed. This seems to make it easier to fall back to sleep after the hour of wakefulness. Once I got up at 3 am for my hour of wakefulness and took a Melatonin believing it would help me fall back to sleep easier. I could not fall back to sleep until 5 am and had to get up for work at 5:15 am. The rest of the day I was dog tired probably because the Melatonin was still in my system. I won't do that again.
Friday I went to the local vitamin shop and asked the teller if they had Focus Factor I believe you had mentioned. He said they didn't carry it and instead showed me a bottle of Psychotropin made by ErgoPharm (http://www.ergopharm.net/products_psycho.php). They wanted $50 for the bottle of 120 capsules. I looked at the ingredients and they are almost identical to Focus Factor. I did not buy the bottle but instead bought one called SharpMind (http://www.nutraceutical.com/search/view_product.cfm?product_index=5903) for $16. The main ingredients are similar but it did not contain DMAE. The teller told me they had problems keeping the Psychotropin on the shelf because college kids were stealing it. So they now keep it behind the register. He also said that he tried it. He usually took the capsules with breakfast and said it made him feel great all day. It also suppressed his appetite and he said he lost 10 pounds. I did some research on Psychotropin and found it as cheap as $27.95 a bottle. Then I read some reviews. One review (http://www.1fast400.com/a64_DMAE_Profile.html) discussed the ingredient DMAE and sited clinical studies that showed DMAE was more harmful than beneficial. Another reviewer said several people had contacted ErgoPharm and asked them to remove the DMAE. One person said they took centrophenoxine instead of DMAE with no adverse side effects. I called the vitamin shop and spoke to the owner about the Psychotropin and SharpMind. He said SharpMind was a better product than the Psychotropin with less adverse side effects (weightloss I presume but that's not bad, is it?). We did not discuss DMAE. I now take a SharpMind in the morning with breakfast. When the bottle is empty I'll let you know what happened. Someone on this forum needs to turn into a lab rat and take the Psychotropin. It is not that expensive and the bottle contains 120 capsules. The recommended dose is 4 per day which sounds high but they claim one bottle is a 30 day supply.
Regards,
Scot Stride
Patricia, Scot, no matter how I used the Novadreamer, I have never had any real success with it. I don't incorporate the cues, and I no longer use it. If you do, Dominick suggests it is most effective if worn after the WBTB wake period, for the few hours of sleep that follows.
As for position, no matter how I fell asleep wearing it, because I roll around like crazy during nonREM sleep (and I think we all do) I've awakened in all positions, including on my face.
Pat, if you can sit quietly with your eyes closed for an hour after waking, and not fall immediately back to sleep, my hat's off to you! I sure couldn't! I don't do anything special during WBTB. I find consistency is more important. I set my alarm for 5 hours after bedtime, stay up for 60 minutes, and go back to bed. Stephen's research suggests time is most important, and a wake period of 30-60 minutes is optimal. Sometimes I watch the tube, or do laundry, answer mail, post on the forum, or read. I've even had a cup of coffee on occasion. I'm a great sleeper, and have no trouble going back to bed.
As for these chemicals, I've never been sure what they add. I maximize REM dreaming by using WBTB far more effectively than by using any chemicals, and I still don't become lucid as often as I could. What I need is an improved ability to remember my intention to recognize when I'm dreaming, and no chemical is going to give me that. Only practice, practice, practice.
Paul
Paul, I've arrived at much the same conclusion. I think a lot of the vitamins and supplements are really just a way for some people to better focus their energy and concentration, more like a placebo, or a rune of some kind, than anything else. I've tried just about everything mentioned here, and the only success I've had with foreign substances have been of the fungi variety, which I cannot recommend here, for obvious blah blah blah no matter how well they blah blah blah... WBTB seems to be the best, or at least the easiest.
Response To Scott, Paul, Keith:
Scott, Thanks for your tips on sleep techniques etc. The Product I was talking about is FOCUS FORMULA. Check it out. About $13.00 for 60 caplets. Very comprehensive. Contains, DMAE (I don't have a problem with it and from what I have read, the only side effect is LUCID DREAMING!!!. I can sure handle that one!! Also has Omega Threes, Huperzine A, Vinpocetine. Ginko Biloba and the Optimal B Vitamins for Acetylcholine production. I haven't tried Melatonin yet, but I agree it is better taken around initial bedtime as if taken later during WBTB it could be very difficult to get up so I have heard. Celestial Seasonings, Valerian Tea may work as well. I'll have to look into SharpMind. I am probably a good lab rat because I am so regimented in my vitamin, mineral, food consumption habits. I have run my system like a chemist for years timing food intake and nutritional supplements. Also probably due to my thinness I feel the effects of practically everything I eat. Benefit is I am never sick?? So far anyway. To put it this way, if I eat just one M & M morsel, I feel it right away.
Keith, Your schedule sounds like mine, the most uninterrupted sleep I get is about 5/1/2 hours. So weekends and days off are good for experimentation, even so I can still have LDs during the workweek without doing anything. What works for me in particular is watching Fast Motion First Person Perspective Videos. IMAX viewing in a Dome Threatre somehow accidently threw me into the most intent Lucid Dreams ever. I wasn't even trying to become lucid or practicing anything at the time. Now I have purchased and found some clips that help do the same thing, but not with the consistency I would like.
Paul, That is interesting that it makes no difference the sleeping position and that you find yourself in various ones. I am a very methodical sleeper. An idiosyncracy of mine is that I don't want my hair in knots when I wake up so I have sort of trained myself to move my head and straighen hair out ahead of the bed every time I move. I subtlely wake up anytime I make a move. There is no headboard so that is not a problem. Hair hangs down straight over the bed. Anyway probably TMI. I always emphasize my intension to remember that I am dreaming, but that does not always work obviously. And I do MILD, but it is usually the same object which is a Tree as I am doing my exercises.
Thank you all for your input.
Patricia
Thank you Patricia! I remember playing Quake3 (first-person computer game) and laying down one day and seeing the maze continue on for some time...it sounds like you've taken this idea even further. I am going to do some more experimenting with the first-person shooter games. After watching your videos, do you visualize them while falling asleep? And also, have you actually experimented with the FOCUS FORMULA yet? Melatonin makes me sleepy, even at extremely small doses (.75 mg) even when I take it at night, and Valerian just mildly relaxes me, but I've never felt any residual effects. Thanks for writing!
Patricia, I am definitely your antithesis. I don't think I've ever even taken a multivitamin, much less a natural supplement. Now, talk about illegal drugs, that's a different story!
I guess I have to go with what the Devil said (I am intimately acquainted with the old gentleman): "When I die, I want to be sick, not healthy!" And I've pretty much met my goal.
I eat lots of meat, some veges (but no carbs; I'm diabetic). I also suffer from cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, obesity, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, and high triglycerides, and I exercise only when absolutely necessary--So, basically I'm a time bomb waiting to explode, pretty much. Oh yes, and I'm also depressed. Can't imagine why...
At least I don't smoke (anymore).
I take seven different meds for all this, twice a day.
Standing here at Death's door, I would have to say that the last thing I could ever care about is holding still while sleeping, so I won't knot up the hair that I already lost most of, years ago!
Hey, I just thought of a great dreamsign! The next time I do something that's good for my health, I'll remember to recognize that I'm dreaming.
Paul
Hi Patricia! Just curious..Where? did you read that one of focus formulas side efects is lucid dreaming? or were you kidding? Tom
Keith - You asked if I visualized the games after falling asleep. Actually I do not. I believe what is happening is the subconscious mind while in the Beta State mimics in a way what is similar to how the mind LDs while in the Alpha State using these First Person Computer Games or Movie Clips while awake as a Catalyst. I have started a conversation on the Forum about Virtual Reality Headsets.
FOCUS FORMULA I have used, but I use it in the AM before going to work with my vitamins for optimal health results. I used it just once, 1 tablet, during the WBTB hour timeframe, but nothing happened. I need to experiment more with that. I also rotate in the AM with Source Naturals DMAE and have not used that yet during WBTB.
Fortunately from what I have read these substances are actually beneficial to you health wise as well as instigators of Lucid Dreaming. Can't go wrong. I just need to tweek the timing of it for LD purposes.
Happy Dreaming, Patricia
Paul - I have not experimented with any Illegal Drugs so I can't really speak for them or whether it is just some political issue. I really am hesitant to try anything that could cause some potential harm not really knowing what is in them. The FDA has its problems, but at least they do some research. Vitamins & Supplements aren't regulated by FDA, but at least I can do my own research and determine whether or not I want to take them. So far okay. I also have had voluntary blood tests to make sure the Supplements aren't causing any problems. Again just fine.
You are a Doctor so is that how you have access to experiment?
I could be at Death's Door too. We just never know, but I don't think of Death as a negative, but a transference of energy to another form which to me LDs and OBEs insinuate.
Just to stay in the right topic on the Forum have you seen my Virtual Reality suggestion? Could be great entertainment!!
Are you being sarcastic/humorous about the 2003 retreat? Are you saying I should not go? Aren't Stephen and Keelin chaperoning???? Sounds a little WILD! Tee Hee!
Patricia
Tom, I was serious about the side effect. I need to clarify, however. One of the side effects of DMAE is Lucid Dreaming. I use DMAE from Source Naturals every other day or so and also Focus Formula which contains DMAE along with other beneficial Brain Ingredients. Here is another DMAE product link that states "intensifies lucid dreams" http://hbcprotocols.com/products-DMA120.html I am currently using this in the AM with my other multivitamin formula. You would need to experiment say with WBTB to see how this is most effective, but you don't obviously want your system or subconscious to get too use to it as it could become ineffective that is why I use them both intermittently.
Patricia
Whats up Keith.. Is the Rem-Dreamer still holding up for you? For the past 3 days with the exception of today, I've experienced a lucid dream everyday. I even think that one of them was an "out of body projection" since I realized being in a place where nobody could see me and cars passed through my body. Very interesting experience. It reminds me of one of Oliver Fox's experiences. But anyway get back to me Keith and let me know how your device is doing. Peace
Hey Lamar,
Sorry I haven't written. How or what have you been doing to induce 3 ld's, 3 days in a row? My remdreamer experiences have been scarce. I stopped trying to wear the mask at night, and I really haven't had any good times to effectively use the WBTB method in the early mornings. Work and "life" have really been getting in the way, and what little sleep I've been getting hasn't allowed for any experimentation. TONITE I'm putting fresh batteries in the remdreamer, and am going to set the alarm for 5 to 6 hours of sleep, and I'm going to diligently wake up for a full hour in the morning, before putting the mask on and going back to sleep. I'll report back tomorrow afternoon. Keith
Whats up Keith. I haven't had 3 in a day. But rather 1 everyday for the last 3 days. I wish I had 3 in a day. That would be amazing. But anyhow the way I would make them happen is I would wake up at like 6 in the morning, stay up an hour and read something that has to do with Astral Travel or Lucid Dreaming, then go to sleep. They were strange experiences the last 2 times though cause I found myself having to concentrate very hard while in the dream state to focus. My whole thing is finding things to read or checking my watch while in the dream state. It works very well for me. The second one I had was as if my mind did not want to pay attention at all to the words I was seeing in the dream. It was as if My mind was trying to keep me totally oblivious to what was going on. The 3rd time It seemed as if I entered the dream through my "pineal gland", (Thrid eye) after watching the dream for sometime then forcing myself into it. Very crazy man. But I would defintely like to get on of those REM- DREAMERS to help me to become aware more often. My new thing for the next week or so will be asking myself what time it is more often, in all hopes that I will look at my watch more in the dream state. Peace.
Have been using my Remdreamer fairly consistently for 2 straight weeks, trying it before bed, middle of the night, and in the mornings for attempted WBTB's. My dream recall has increased significantly, probably due to my increased efforts, but I haven't seen any cue's recently. In a fit of luck I just picked up a "real" novadreamer off ebay, so now I'll be able to do some side-by-side comparisons. Patricia, the Ralph's grocery store I shop at has an Imax film for sale right now, but it's the "Space" one...any experience with this title?
Hi Keith, Yes I have seen the Space IMAX Films in the Theatres, but they are not showing enough rapid first person perspective scenes. So I don't think very effective for LD purposes. Go to dvdplanet.com and order, Alien Adventure, that one is great! It can be played in both 2D and 3D, 2D still very effective can be played on regular DVD player. I play it on my laptop as it is right in front of my face and I can feel the sensations of the movement more intently. Alien Adventure is put out by IMAX as well.
Patricia
Hi folks: Just got my REM dreamer from Poland. It took about 5 weeks to get it, cost was about $178. It looks to be a virtual carbon-copy of the NovaDreamer. There are dip switches instead of a rotary dial selector, otherwise it's much the same.
The user's guide takes some deciphering; it's not written by an English speaker. I have both the REM Dreamer and a NovaDreamer now, and will test them side-by-side in a one-month solitary retreat devoted to dream yoga in February. Look for a report in March or April.
Maybe by then the price of the NovaDreamer will come down a bit. $700 is a clear case of price-gouging. There's a little too much of that these days.
Dream Dreamers,
Just as a reminder: TLI does not endorse the price advertised for the remaining (current model) NovaDreamer units that are being offered by a non-affiliated distributor. I have no further updates on release date or cost of the new model to come, but expect it to be very reasonably priced.
Good dreams to all, Keelin
